A Change for the Better?
By: Zero

All of us have noticed the change of the view games screen and there have been many arguments about it if it’s good or the worst thing that ever happened to online Triple Triad. The number of positions people have taken with this concept has made this debate comparable to a discussion regarding the skill of open vs. closed. With this article, let us look at both sides of the coin before making all of our judgments.

It’s very hard to miss that the names have been removed from the view games screen so that you do not know who you are playing. A person is now solely dependent on the rules that have been given in order to determine whether to take the game or not.

Blessing or curse?

One good side is for sure the fact that the people who create games don’t have to change their names anymore since those who join games are not able to see who they are playing with. Sure, there are people who time out on the card selection when they see that they are about to play against good players. However, the number of those is really small so it is a miniscule statistic to look at. With the names being removed this also results in people joining games more often. But let’s look at the why, shall we? There were several people who held back from joining a game with a great player’s name on it. Naturally, a player who plays more for the concept of winning will avoid the tougher players to get points, build stats, etc.

A bad side of this change is that the names cannot be seen anymore. That much is obvious. But how does this take into account the people who want to challenge themselves? While the last argument focuses on the players who are scared to take a tough game, it is hard for people to strive to take a good player. A difficult ruleset does not necessarily mean a tough player. Back to my original point. You cannot see who you will play with when you join a game which, in my opinion, is a good thing. People who create games also don’t know who they will play so it’s just fair. While there are players that are striving to improve, the overall trend in the community is that a player is scared of losing, as shown by how long trade games stay up on the view games screen.

Overall, this probably will not change. A lot of good and bad can come from this so take both aspects in mind before forming an opinion. In case of private or tourney games, you need to get used to it. Life is too short to cry over spilt milk.
