TTA’s All-Time Best Player - Part I
By: Kaus Debonair
This is quite an undertaking. There have been thousands of people that have come through this site. From those thousands, I’ve narrowed it down to a handful. From there, I’m going to do my best to narrow it down to one. Here we go!
And the nominees are...
The SE Champions:
SE-Cait Sith: Delial
SE-Zell: Mette
SE-Aeris: Soujiro
SE-Seifer: Karmazin
SE-Tifa: Beastay
SE-Kiros: DocEvil
SE-Yuffie: Cookie
SE-Laguna: Unfixable
The Triad Wars Champions:
Triad Wars I: Kaus Debonair
Triad Wars II: DocEvil
Triad Wars III: Brenn
Triad Wars IV: Vergil
Triad Wars V: Seto
The TTAC Champions:
TTAC I: Rapid Assassin
TTAC II: NeoSky
TTAC III: Kamikaze
TTAC IV: Cookie
TTAC V: Suikoden
Congratulations to the 17 people that have made my preliminary ballot for the all-time player of the year. When we talk about measuring sticks in any type of competition, we have to simply narrow it down to the champions. They have survived brutal draws, tough rulesets, and done it all to be champions.
From this list of 17 people, we have to make some cuts so we can look deeper at this. If we are talking about the all-time best, then we can’t just consider one good showing. In order to make the next cut, the players not only have had to win one event, but have excellent showings in other tournaments or perhaps some FFA wins. Having said that, let’s take a look at the group of people who make the next cut.
And the nominees are...
Cookie
Cookie has won two major tournaments over the course of several years. SE-Laguna took place early in TTA and TTAC IV took place relatively recently. This doesn’t include what he has done in between those two wins as a very formidable player and an obvious nominee for TTA’s All-Time Best Player.
DocEvil
Two major titles, runner-up in SE-Tifa to Beastay, multiple FFAs, and basically an extremely dominant player. DocEvil was halfway to TTA’s grand slam with Clan Wars and TTAC being the only thing he has never won. If you ever played him, there is no explanation needed as to why he is a nominee.
Seto
One of TTA’s finest player from beginning until present, Seto finally broke through the barrier and won the most recent Triad Wars competition. He has gone deep in numerous tournaments including finals and semifinals appearances. He is arguably the most consistent player over the five years making him a nominee for this prestigious award.
Kaus Debonair
Along with Seto, Kaus Debonair has built his resume over a five-year period winning Triad Wars in TTA’s beginning, success in FFA tournaments, a frequent chat tournament champion, and recently quietly making the semis of TTAC IV and SE-Cait Sith. While his skill is questionable at times, it is hard to argue with his success over the years making him a nominee of the final award.
Kamikaze
Champion of TTAC III, he has made his presence known in several other tournaments as well. Regularly at least a quarterfinalist in most major tournaments and a fixture on two Clan Wars championship teams, Kamikaze also has built a resume that few can compare with in order to be considered a nominee for the Best All-Time TTA Player.
Karmazin
The champion of SE-Seifer and considered one of the most dominant players in his era, Karmazin is yet another obvious choice for this award. He played mistake-free Triple Triad in his tenure here at TTA making him not only a dominant competitor, but a member sought out by every clan for his services. Had he continued his time, there’s no telling just how many more titles he would have won.
Congratulations to the 6 finalists. To the 11 that unfortunately did not make it to the next round, the biggest measuring stick that I used was dominance over a long period of time. Nobody wants to see any of you all in their draw for a tournament so don’t feel that not making the final cut takes away from you as players. You all have had incredible success and should be extremely proud.
But the show must go on. We’ve narrowed down the field to players that have had success in many tournaments over a lengthy period of time. Where do we go from here? While it is hard to take anybody off of this list, I am now going to make this group into the final three.
And the nominees are...
Karmazin
Cookie
DocEvil
These three players have separated themselves from the thousands of players, the handful of nominees, and the few semifinalists. From here, how do we even compare the three of these players in order to determine one solitary winner of this award? That decision cannot be made by one single person. In order to make this decision, I have consulted 5 players who have played TTA from the beginning until now that have seen all three of these players in action. The 5 each get a vote and the most votes wins. I will not share the names of the players that are surveyed.
The players have voted and the results are in.
The winner of the All-Time Best TTA Player is…
