Clan Focus
By: Kaus Debonair

Time to be selfish. :) The clan of focus for the month of August is my pride and joy.

Clan of Focus: Devas
Leaders: Cookie, Delial, Kaus Debonair, Paradox
Total Membership: 20
Formation Date: April 2005
Best Attribute: Leadership and Skill
Biggest Challenge: Consistency

One of the newest clan to be considered an upper echelon clan, they have truly found their niche in the community. Other the past two and a half years, they have been a contender in every major tournament as well as winning many clan vs clan events. However, does this mindset make this clan one-dimensional?

The Devas have often been compared to the no longer existent Zodiac Braves in a different way than the fact that the same leader created both clans. Both have been classified a skill-based clan and have been criticized as not really being a clan. The phrase "group of friends that are good players that just player together in tournaments" is the one I'm most referring to. However, isn't the definition of a clan a group of friends that player together? That nulls the previous statement. The Devas have continued to thrive in their existence winning both Clan Bash Championships and being awarded the new clan of the year in 2005. Keep in mind that they haven't won that award since so they must be slacking. :)

The leadership of Cookie, Delial, Kaus Debonair, and Paradox bring a lot to the table. Cookie and Delial are reknowned for their TT abilities while Kaus Debonair and Paradox are experience veterans. That's a pretty good balance. Because of this, nobody from this clan will ever be a recipient of clan leader of the year simply because this tight-knit group works as a team rather than four individual units. In philosophy, the concept of "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" would be the best one to describe this team. The clan has done well, but that doesn't mean there haven't been tough times for them as well.

The biggest challenge for the clan is its activity. More specifically, we could call it consistent activity. After a conversation with Paradox regarding this issue, he also cites this as a problem that the clan has to deal with. While this is an issue that the whole community faces, the clan seems to have problems with this more than the community. During the major clan tournaments in the year, the clan activity spikes because every Deva is anticipating this event since these are the things they covet. During the off-seasons of these events, the clan struggles to finish clan tournaments and to maintain that interest and activity. An issue that has been related to this is member turnover. A number of members are rotated in and out of the roster as activity diminishes. While this isn't the fault of the clan, it is an issue they still have to deal with. The clan tries its best to fill those gaps with other players that fit the same balance of skill and activity like most other clans. How the clan will continue to fill these gaps as the amount of players and level of talent declines remains to be seen.

Despite this major issue, the core group of players remains active and tied to each other to continue to try and improve the clan. Their ultimate goal seems to be to win a Clan Wars championship and to be a Clan of the Year contender. While these goals are most clan's goals, this clan does have a good chance of attaining them because of the core group of leaders and the devotion that they have to the clan.

Another month, another clan. Good night everybody!
